3 slashes mobile broadband prices

3 is continuing to lead the way in the burgeoning market for cheap broadband, with the announcement that it has cut the cost of selected best mobile broadband packages.

As of today, the broadband provider will offer its pay as you go dongle for just £19.99 – down from £29.99 previously. After buying the ZTE MF627 USB modem, customers can add extra credit at £10 per 1GB of download allowance. Larger top ups are available at 3GB for £15 and 7GB for £25.

The one-month mobile broadband product from 3 has also been reduced. Customers opting for the package now pay just £9.99 for a dongle and an extra £15 per month for a monthly usage limit of 5GB.

Finally, the price of the Ready to Go package has fallen from £49.99 to £39.99. This differs from the company’s other pay as you go mobile broadband offerings in the respect that the 3GB MF627 dongle comes pre-loaded with 3GB of usage when purchased.

According to 3, 3GB is enough to allow users to send 3,000 emails a month, get online for 30 hours, download almost 100 four minute music tracks and download 15 four minute videos. Once this pre-loaded credit has been used, Ready to Go customers can add top ups in the same denominations and at the same prices as those for 3’s other pay as go mobile broadband packages.

3 has consistently proved among the most innovative mobile broadband providers, with cut price offers that have helped to drive take-up of the technology. Earlier this month, for instance the company introduced SIM-only mobile broadband to the UK for the first time.

Meanwhile, one-month mobile broadband has recently been one of the key growth areas in the UK market. This has been attributed to consumers being attracted by the flexibility they offer thanks to the fact that contracts can cancelled with just 30 days notice without incurring a financial penalty.
