Earthlings Documentary

Earthlings_DVD

EARTHLINGS is a feature length documentary about humanity’s absolute dependence on animals (for pets, food, clothing, entertainment, and scientific research) but also illustrates our complete disrespect for these so-called “non-human providers.” The film is narrated by Academy Award nominee Joaquin Phoenix (GLADIATOR) and features music by the critically acclaimed platinum artist Moby.

With an in-depth study into pet stores, puppy mills and animals shelters, as well as factory farms, the leather and fur trades, sports and entertainment industries, and finally the medical and scientific profession, EARTHLINGS uses hidden cameras and never before seen footage to chronicle the day-to-day practices of some of the largest industries in the world, all of which rely entirely on animals for profit. Powerful, informative and thought-provoking, EARTHLINGS is by far the most comprehensive documentary ever produced on the correlation between nature, animals, and human economic interests. There are many worthy animal rights films available, but this one transcends the setting. EARTHLINGS cries to be seen. Highly recommended!

Animal cruelty is initself a terrible thing, and people would just rather just not know at the end of the day where their tasty meat comes from, since, hey, its not hurting them directly, however thats just not true.

What most people dont know is that Animal agriculture is the single largest factor toward global pollution, global warming, climate change, water shortage, disease outbreaks, and health issues then anything else. Lets take a moment to look at the facts.

Animals:

145 million killed every day
6 million every hour
100.000 every minute
1680 every second

With an ever growing population, how long can we keep maintaining this?

Further, according to the FAO:

*Animal agriculture generates more greenhouse gas than cars, trucks and other vehicles used for transport
*Livestock uses 30% of the earth’s entire land surface including 33% of the global arable land used for producing feed for livestock
*Animal agriculture is a major threat to water resources
*Animal agriculture is resulting in deforestation as forests are cleared to make way for new pastures
*Animals consume more protein than they produce
*It takes more than 100.000 litres of water to produce 1 kilogram of beef.

The problem is, we just eat to much meat, steaks use to be posh, well, there was a reason for it, eatting meat meant someone somwhere had to spend the time and effort to rear an animal for you to eat, the meat did not magically become cheaper thought, this method was largely changed to stuffing the animals in tiny changes and pumping them full of enough hormones and drugs to keep them alive long enough to be killed in a giant rotating deathmachine that turns them upside down and lets the animal die by drowning in its own blood. Lovely thought…but hey, its  cheap, so thats all that really matters now.

However, if we are lucky, in vetro meat will start to become the new cheap, human alternative to the current state of events, its basically protein cloned in a tube, the meat is never actually alive. Once this alternative menthod is implimented everyone will be happy, its cheaper and cleaner for the consumer, easier and cheaper to produce for the manufacturor, and we wont have to raize massive landscapes to order to pasturize our animals. Even the animal rights activists will be pleased that all the human methods of animal slaughter are no longer a factor.

Three cheers for science, lets hope we see this used soon.
