Good news fior everyone in the UK the popular US video-on-demand broadband / mobile broadband / TV service Hulu has announced that its going to be launched in the UK. We could see it as early as September, as the first part of a multi-pronged expansion plan.
Hulu provides content from a vast array of US broadcast networks like NBC, Fox and ABC, is has been ambitious to intorduce its service to the various best mobile broadband and landline broadband suppliers.
Speaking at London’s Future of Broadcasting conference last week, Hulu’s Senior Vice-President of International Johannes Larcher said that the company is currently in talks with all of the major internet service providers.
“The UK is our number one priority in terms of international expansion. We are very interested in the UK,” he said.
“We hope in the very near future we will have some plans to reveal for the UK.”
The introduction of the Hulu service in the UK is also looking to take advantage of the void left when the Project Kangaroo, which was a planned pay as you go mobile broadband and landline on demand TV service from the BBC, ITV and Channel 4 fell through earlier this year.
Hulu is currently free for all users, relying on commerical revenue to keep running unlike many other failed services that try subscription based systems. Its content ranges from almost 150 different content companies, including Lionsgate, MGM, National Geographic and Comedy Central.
As a UK citizen, I am very excited to hear this news. It is annoying how Hulu does not currently work abroad but its great to see that theyre expanding internationally. However, I have been watching videos online from ovguide for years. Ovguide always seems to have what im searching for in terms of free online video content I’ve heard great things about the possibilities of Hulu but I don’t predict it will alter my viewing habits in any way.
