A massive 85 per cent of those questioned said that the main reason they go online is to do research. Other areas of net use are also strong, As up to 65 per cent said that they regularly use the internet to do shopping. The biggest factor was of course, communication, with a 90 per cent of older people rely on their internet connection as a method of communication between friends and family.

The survey noted that while older people are happy to use the internet for lots of different things, they seem reluctant to conduct their personal finances online.

“The survey also reveals a reticence to manage personal affairs such as payment details and personal details online. “More than half of people surveyed don’t want to view their pension payments online – highlighting the need to build confidence in this area.”
