Number of Wi-Fi hotspots set to double soon

A report byt he times has stated that BT has unveiled ambitious plans to significantly extend its wireless network across the UK. BT intends to develop its wireless mobile broadband networks over the next six months, and is set to double its number of Wi-Fi hotspots from 500,000 to one million.

The Director of BT’s Wireless Broadband Dave Hughes explained that Wi-Fi from pay as you go mobile broadband and other mobile broadband sources have grown increasingly popular and that general traffic increases by around 50 percent every year.


“Consumers are demanding better coverage while they are on the move and want reliable connections, while others are keen to have constant access to personal emails or social networks. Pretty soon there will be a Wi-Fi hotspot on every corner in the UK,” Mr Hughes predicted.
