Cash for clunkers officially ends Monday at 8pm, with it go many headaches and broken promises that plagued it during its course. Not saying that the program wasent a success, the programs was in fact a little too demanding on the flow of new and used cars, making life a little difficult for those who relyed on the flow of new and used vehicles such as retailers and car hire and van hire agencies.
The popular program has cleared dealers inventories across America, but thats not particularly good news for everyone. The rules only allowed customers to buy new cars, so many used car dealers saw a decline in sales. The program’s nearing its end and that has used car dealers hoping their sales will turn around. The sign on the window reads “open,” and the lot is full of cars ready to be purchased, but there aren’t many customers stopping in to M&M’s Auto Sales to buy, because cash for clunkers doesn’t apply there.
Now that the glut of buying is over, its back to square one, so many potential customers already driving new vehicles, and dealers are still going to be struggling as the rescission continues. It was a successful idea, but the long terms effects will be thin at best.
Jeff Crippen, owner of Crippen Auto Mall in Delta Township, says he hopes to have all submissions in by the weekend so he can be guaranteed a rebate check from the government.
Jeff Crippen, owner of Crippen Auto Mall: “Our plan is to get everything submitted by Saturday night. As time goes on this weekend, I think it’s going to be more difficult for the dealers to get online with the government to submit that application.”
