
Of all the healthy habits we are told we need to have, exercising is one of those that doesn’t appeal to everyone. After all, not everyone likes to hit the gym. It’s important to exercise, but we have to remember that there are many ways of doing it rather than hitting the gym. So if you have been telling your partner and your children that they need to get active, but you can’t bear the idea of exercise in the traditional sense, here are some things that you can all do.
Dancing
There are so many different types of dance styles out there. Proper dancing is amazing for you. It gets you sweating, and you will be very sore the next day. Dance instructors like Arthur Murray teach all of the popular dance styles, from samba to the cha-cha-cha. And it is so much fun that you won’t even notice you are getting your heart rate pumping!
Walking
Because there are so many different types of exercise routines out there, we can underestimate what walking actually does for us. A 15-minute brisk walk can mean you will have walked a mile! Think about those opportunities to go for a walk rather than driving or taking public transport. After all, every step counts! If you want to take it one step further, pun unintended, you could start hiking. Hiking is one of those things that will get your heart pumping, will help you to navigate rough terrain, and you will spend quality time with your loved ones.
Cleaning the House
Ok, you might not like to get on your hands and knees and clean, but if you set yourself a time limit for that you will work harder and faster while burning a couple of extra calories. A vigorous vacuuming session can easily get your heart rate rising.
Gymnastics
If you are looking at developing some form of functional fitness, gymnastics will help you build some great real-world strength. And while you might not like the idea of exercise in a structured sense, the great thing about gymnastics is that it’s all incredibly playful. There are so many gymnastics organisations all over the world that, if you are really looking to become fit, this is, hands-down, the best way to develop proper strength.
Play With the Kids
You may find that your children wear you out at the best of times and if you are not playing with your kids as much as you think you should, it’s an ideal time to go down the slide, balance on the balance beam, and start pushing your kids on the swing as high as you can. You can also use your time in the park to undertake some quick isometrics. Isometrics are exercises that literally take 7 seconds to do and will have a massive impact on your strength in the long run.
You don’t need to hit the gym at all in order to get fit and strong. All you need to do is, in many ways, live your life!
