Encouraging Your Kids to Be More Active

Exercise is an essential daily activity for everyone but it’s particularly important for kids to exercise on a regular basis. As well as enhancing their physical health and emotional wellbeing, exercise plays an important role in building confidence, enhancing teambuilding skills and forging friendships.

If you want to encourage your kids to be more active, take a look at these top tips now…

1. Make exercise fun

No-one likes doing exercise they don’t enjoy, so you’ll be facing an uphill battle if you try and encourage your kids to do something they find boring. Instead, let them try new things and give them the opportunity to find an activity they enjoy. Whether it’s street dance, indoor rock climbing or ice skating, there are endless ways to exercise and have fun at the same time.

2. Join a local team

Being part of a team is a great way for kids to make new friends and learn something new. Wearing a sports kit, attending training sessions and travelling to competitions is all part of the camaraderie of being on a team. From basketball and netball to football and hockey, there are numerous options available. Take a look at local groups in your area and encourage your kids to sign up.

3. Involve the whole family

When you involve the whole family in fitness activities, your kids are much more likely to want to join in. A kickabout in the garden, playing catch at the park or even a fitness tournament on your games console will get everyone moving and having fun.

4. Make it a competition

If your kids have a healthy interest in competition, use this your advantage and channel it into sports and exercise. Children who are competitive often enjoy sports when they can play against an opponent or another team. However, you can also host informal at-home competitions to keep them interested and motivated.

5. Incorporate exercise into daily activities

Instead of relying on your car or public transport to get around, why not walk or cycle instead? By incorporating exercise into your day-to-day activities, it will sooner become a part of life. As well as enhancing your kid’s health, you can also be confident that you’re helping the planet when you switch from driving to walking, running or cycling.

6. Plan regular adventures

Next time you’re planning a family day out or a holiday, make sure you factor in some form of activity or exercise. Instead of a trip to the cinema, why not go on a family cycle ride instead? By choosing venues and destinations that lend themselves to exercise, it’s easy to encourage your kids to be active.

Make Activity a Top Priority

When kids are active, it has a major impact on their wellbeing. Regular exercise is essential to promote physical health, but it can also help you to be happier and more confident. By making activity a top priority in your home, you’re teaching your kids valuable lessons and giving them a great start in life.
