As the season changes from the winter to spring and COVID restrictions lift further, you may be feeling pleased to leave behind all the coughs and colds of winter and ready to get out and enjoy some fun. The change of seasons provides the perfect opportunity to enjoy family time, but keeping bugs at bay is a must.

To prevent illness from getting in the way of your springtime plans, you need to ensure your family feel as healthy as possible. Here are some ways to help keep your family healthy this spring:

Encourage Hand Hygiene

During the pandemic, everyone got into the habit of practising good hand hygiene, including the kids. Continuing to keep this up even though restrictions have started lifting is an excellent idea and should help to reduce the chances of kids picking up colds and other bugs when you are out and about. Packing some hand sanitiser in your bag when you go out with the kids is also a helpful idea and will enable you to keep the kids’ hands germ-free when you are out having fun away from home.

Give Their Immunity a Boost

Every parent wants their children to eat healthily to feel at their best. Choosing foods that give their immunity a boost is a great way to keep the kids feeling as healthy as possible and ready for life’s adventures. If your child is a reluctant eater or tries to avoid eating fruit and vegetables, you may find it helpful to make mealtimes fun to encourage them to eat. Using brightly coloured fruit and vegetables to make them look more appealing is one tactic. Alternatively, you could try the hidden veg in pasta sauce trick to help the kids on their way to five-a-day.

Stick With a Healthy Routine

Another great way to keep your kids feeling as healthy as possible is to keep them in a routine. A bedtime routine is crucial and will make it easier for your child to get the recommended amount of sleep for their age. Trying to stick with a set bedtime is beneficial as it ensures children get the recommended amount of sleep each night. Getting the right amount of rest will help kids to feel at their best and make them less susceptible to picking up ailments such as coughs and other minor bugs.

Get Outdoors

Getting outside into the fresh air is always a good idea and a great way to enjoy quality time with the kids. But, as well as being lots of fun, being outside can also benefit the kids’ health and wellbeing. Being surrounded by nature, whether at a park, woodland, or even in your garden, will provide plenty of benefits. Time spent outdoors helps to boost vitamin D levels, encourages kids to be active, and when surrounded by nature, being outdoors offers a host of psychological benefits. So getting outside is not only a great way to pass the time but also provides plenty of health benefits.
